Our Numbers – ELBICA Research Lab
Launched in the Summer of 2021 by PI Eliott, ELBICA research assistants engage in AI and MAS (Multi-Agent Systems) projects under ambiguity and abstract guidance, building experience in multi-layered systems, cognitive modeling, and adaptive reasoning.
2026:
- 10 students will join the ELBICA lab for summer research. Welcome, ELBICA team!
- Our paper, “Modeling the Winkum Game,” was accepted to HUSO 2026.
- Eliott served as a panelist:
- InfoWare 2026 Congress: Open Discussion II, Theme: Society Evolution and Human-Machine Cohabitation.

2025:
- Eliott launched a new arm of the ELBICA lab: the Cognitive Robustness Research Studio.
- On the Cognitive Robustness Research Studio homepage, Eliott explains a new term she coined as part of designing the program’s methodology. The term is: Human-AI Cognitive Signature Spill, Fernanda Eliott, 2025.
- Our work received a best paper award: Situated Learners in a Sequential Decision-Making Setting. Kasimov, T. and Takei, S. and Lu, H. and Lee, M. and Eliott, F. The Fourteenth International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Applications INTELLI 2025.
- Shinon Takei and Timur Kasimov presented our work “Situated Learners in a Sequential Decision-Making Setting” at Intelli 2025 in Lisbon.
- Eliott presented her Keynote Speech, “Crossroads of AI, Philosophy, and Abstraction,” at HUSO 2025.
- Eliott served as a panelist for the Cognition, Intelligence, and AI panel at the Infosys 2025 Congress.
2024:

2022 academic year:
- Summer: 7 MAP students and 1 research assistant joined the ELBICA lab.
- PI Eliott was awarded the prestigious Harris Faculty fellowship, Grinnell College, and
- Named a Scialog Fellow (Molecular Basis of Cognition), Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
- Invited guest to the Open Discussion on AI-Challenges: Sentience and Consciousness at The Ninth International Conference on Human and Social Analytics, HUSO 2023, Barcelona, Spain.

- 3 ELBICA students received MAP funding to attend the ISRE conference (Conference of the International Society for Research on Emotion)
